Still Harvesting

We are still in Nebraska helping with the harvest, but we are down to our last week. Susan is still going to the Fit-Stop working out and sometimes fills in at the counter when more help is needed. Susan also makes sure Larry has a lunch and is ready to go when he goes out to harvest. You can’t believe how much corn comes out of the fields. Some of the corn is piled up and used to feed cattle all winter. Here is a picture of the corn, about 35,000 bushels worth. Susan is on her way down from being on top of the corn. The tractor on top has a blade on it and is used to level out the corn has it piles up. In the back ground you can see the auger where the corn comes out to make the pile. When it first starts the tractor is close to the ground and then starts rising up as it levels out the corn. It’s amazing to see the tractor on top of the corn and watch it get higher and higher every day.


Here is a picture of the corn in back of the truck as it is taken from the field to where the pile of corn is being made. Larry drives the truck from the fields and takes the trucks to the corn elevator in town, or the cattle feed lot, or to the pile.


Larry was given a farm truck to drive around while he is here. Here is a picture of the truck and another picture of the custom farm bumper on the tuck. It’s a good truck and Larry’s appreciates being able to use.

More Nebraska Harvest Pictures

Elgin City Park, Nebraska

This is a picture of where we are staying while Larry is helping with the Harvest. This is the camping area in the Elgin, Nebraska city park. It’s a beautiful park, nice and quite with lots of trees. Susan walks to town every morning and works out at a fitness center that was recently opened by Larry’s relatives. Once in a while we stop at the local bar called the Boomerang. So far it’s been everything is working out good. The weather been good, only two nights got down to freezing.

Nebraska Harvest

Well here we are in Elgin, Nebraska starting the soybean and corn harvest. Here's a picture of the Combine that just finished combining soybeans.


Here's the Grain Trailer that follows the Combine. The Combine can dump into the Grain Wagon without stopping. It's like planes flying in formation. An auger swings out from the Combine and the grain is pumped into the Grain Wagon. Larry likes driving the Grain Wagon.


Next the Grain Wagon dumps into a Grain Trailer.


Then the Grain Trailer is pulled with a full size semi to a Grain Elevator for unloading. Larry likes driving these trucks.
